Cube were engaged by the Local Authority and Diocese of Liverpool to provide a Master Plan to restore the Graveyard and Boundary walling to the Grade 1 Church. The earliest records of the St Peter St Paul’s Church, dates back to 1189; The Chancel is Late Norman with the remainder of the fabric dating from c12 through to present day.  The works are seen as an important part of the protection of the listed gravestones and the Church building itself.

Historically St Peters and St Pauls Church graveyard and boundaries have developed over a series of years and this can be seen by the generation of different wall types throughout.

We conducted an assessment of the condition of the boundary walling and impact of lost historical features. A detailed specification and recommendations were presented with a phased strategy to implement the works. In some locations, the railings and wall have been completely removed and therefore we have co-ordinated a design philosophy with English Heritage and the Dioceses to reinstate the lost features.
