Cube’s role:
Specialist heritage consultation and survey

Approached by client

Cube were commissioned by West Lancashire Council as their Historic Building Advisor to inspect and provide advice upon the repair and maintenance aspects of Scarisbrick Hall.

Designed by the architect, Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin, parts of the building are considered to be some of the finest examples of Victorian Gothic architecture in England.  The building is on the 'At Risk' Register and there is concern some of the interior will be irreparable due to dry rot.

Urgent repairs were necessary to maintain the integrity of the structure.  Some of the repairs involved re-roofing, stone renovation, dry rot treatment to approximately £2.5M.  Temporary protection was required to urgently maintain and protect the internal Gothic fabric together with specialist joinery.  Specialist skills and co-ordination of sensitive repairs was required during the restoration.

The project has close liaison with Heritage Lottery Fund and English Heritage.
