Cube's Role: We acted on behalf of the College throughout the duration of the complex 18 month design concept and solutions period for the consultant team. The project was a mixture of new build and refurbishment on a problematic site that is partially situated within a recognised flood plain and has a number of access and egress issues due to the site boundary consisting of rivers on three sides. We assisted the team in developing close working relationships between the interface for construction, the operating College and the students. We carried out competency checks on behalf of the Client on the consultant team capabilities and the procurement and engagement of the Contractor.
CDM Workshops were chaired by us with the design and build contractor and the College Facilities Manager to deal with the successful integration of the proposed works. The site construction was phased to accommodate the various decants and busy College timescales. The 2Nr. year construction works provided new state of the art facilities for all the students from sport science, 6th form hair and beauty, drama and many more. The final scheme was complex dealing with relocating an existing site facility and expanding the site during normal college day to day operations. We attended Contractor and Client Progress Review Meetings whereby updated Health & Safety Reports were provided by us to the Client.
All construction phase documentation was accessible on an internet web portal whereby we provided commentary on Health & Safety related matters.
We dealt with changes to Construction Phase Health & Safety Plan, preparation of the Health and Safety File and Operating & Maintenance Manuals.
The Design Risk Management review process included our audited spreadsheet of outstanding design considerations, continually evaluated throughout construction. This process was monitored by us at planned intervals up to and including reviewing any residual risk at completion with the Client team that affected occupation.
