25/09/2013 A Team Effort
FIVE St Helens cyclists were part of an eight-strong team that cycled London to Paris over the Bank Holiday weekend, raising more than £5,000 for the Steve Prescott Foundation. With support from the foundation's Martin Blondel and Frank Elwick, team L-P3 covered more than 300 miles in three days from Wembley Stadium to the Arc de Triomphe.
Team leader Andy Donnelly, from Dentons Green, said: "It was a long, hard weekend but well worth the effort.
"The words of encouragement from Steve himself meant a lot to all of us and kept us going every step of the way".
“Our support team of Martin Blondel and Frank Elwick deserve a massive pat on the pack too. People still need the Steve Prescott Foundation's support each and every day, so if you can please donate at justgiving.com/teams/L-P3 or support the foundation’s next big challenge, Kilimanjaro. We wish them well on their trek.”
The team was sponsored by Pacifica Cantonese restaurant of Eccles, which is also providing one of the riders: former Pacifica St Helens manager Brian Yau.
John Pout, headteacher of Rainhill High, and young St Helens runner John Ashcroft were also among the riders.
Andy added: “We really appreciate the support we’ve had from Pacifica and it’s fair to say that we couldn’t do it without them. I'd also like to thank Cube Property Surveyors and Consultants for their support too.”
Steve Prescott said: “It gives me a lot of pleasure and satisfaction when I see people get together and support the SPF. It shows that people care about our cause.”
